Caring for the environment

hmd Group have been in business for over 40 years and have developed a complete print solution for printed point of sale material with a strong reputation in the retail sector. The company's operations are based in Watford Hertfordshire and include lithographic, digital, screen-printing, warehousing and all other pre and post-production functions.

At hmd Group, every member of our organisation shares environmental awareness. We regard the protection of the environment as a key part of our philosophy of business. To this end, we operate systems to ensure not only compliance with relevant environmental legislation but also to prevent the risk of environmental harm arising from accidental emissions or discharges.

This environmental policy applies to all of our operations including management, office services, printing, delivery and procurement. All employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.

In pursuing this aim, we seek to be efficient and effective in the use of natural resources, including energy, and to minimise the waste we produce through adoption of good operating practices and through the promotion of recycling.

Through an ongoing review of our processes we endeavour to eliminate or reduce in volume the levels of potentially harmful substances we may use, and where such actions are not possible, to ensure their proper storage and disposal.

Paper - all paper, board and packaging used meets our stringent environmental specifications and as a minimum, these materials are either FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free) or TCF (Totally Chlorine Free) which is the kindest way to bleach pulp. We actively encourage and promote products that are sourced from sustainable forests or are manufactured using recycled material.

Reduce and recycle waste – We have reduced our unavoidable production waste of paper and chemicals and will continue to seek ways to further reduce such waste. We segregate, re-use and recycle the waste unavoidably produced in our production processes. Waste paper and spent aluminium printing plates are collected by 3rd party waste disposal companies for recycling, as are spent chemicals and inks.

We assist our customers in making the best choice if they require an alternative to our standard products but still want their print to be as green as possible.

Commitment, we do not pay lip service to green issues. We care passionately about the environment and do our best at all times to deliver truly eco-friendly green printing services.
